A life in context

Ramachandra Deva established the Khurda ruling house in the political aftermath of the fall of the earlier Odisha kingdom. Restoring Jagannath worship was central to his public legitimacy.

The temple chronicle and later historical writing link his work to returning the sacred Brahma substance, making new wooden images and renewing ritual service. This is continuity of worship, not a claim that the entire great stone temple was newly built.
