The reproduced accession document is dated later, in October 1947.
The reproduced Instrument of Accession separates the ruler’s signature from the Governor-General’s acceptance. Both dates fall after this atlas’s August snapshot. Recording the document’s dates does not settle contested accounts of the circumstances, or the subsequent territorial dispute. [1]

- Following an invasion by armed tribesmen from Pakistan, the Maharaja requested military assistance and signed accession to India. Acceptance was followed by Indian troop deployment; conflict and a territorial dispute continued.

- Hari Singh signed; V. P. Menon carried the instrument back from Jammu; Mountbatten accepted it. Nehru’s 27 October letter describes the military airlift.

Evidence and date notes
The dossier establishes no accession to India by the snapshot; later takeover or inclusion is a separate event.
